Juan Solito Ecolodge sits inside the Hato La Aurora Nature Reserve, in Casanare, one of the most important wildlife sanctuaries in the Eastern Plains of Colombia. Thousands of hectares of flooded savanna, gallery forest, wetlands and moriche palm groves form a unique ecosystem where wildlife lives free.
It is one of the best places in the country to see the jaguar in its natural habitat, alongside capybaras, deer, caimans, anacondas and an astonishing diversity of birds. Here tourism is lived with environmental responsibility, supporting the conservation of this land and of Llanos culture.
Discover the Llanos safari
The Eastern Plains are one of the richest birdwatching destinations in Colombia, the country with the largest number of bird species in the world. At Juan Solito you can watch scarlet ibis, herons, jabirus, stone-curlews, storks and dozens of wetland and savanna species.
Our local guides know the best spots and times of day for sightings. Bring your binoculars and camera: sunrises and sunsets over the Llanos, mirrored in the wetlands, are an unforgettable sight.
See guided hikesWe are in the north-east of Hato La Aurora, on the right bank of the Ariporo river, in the municipality of Hato Corozal, Casanare, in the heart of the Eastern Plains of Colombia.
You can arrive via Yopal or Paz de Ariporo, and continue overland to the reserve. We offer transport from both towns; write to us on WhatsApp and we will arrange the best route from your starting point.
The dry season (December to March) is ideal for safaris and wildlife watching, because animals gather near the water. In the rainy season (April to November) the landscape is lush and river trips are at their best. Each season has its own charm.
